February 2014

WM Plant Hire were called in by the Council’s Highways team to assist with the flood clean up in Worcester City Centre. Using the 13 tonne long reach machine fitted with a rotating grab an estimated 500 tonnes of debris was cleared from the River Severn around the bridge.


 
January 2014

Placing scour protection to Kirkstall Bridge involved the use of two long reach machines, tugboats and modular pontoons to place rock armour. The high river level added to the challenge, however the works were successfully completed ahead of schedule.


 
December 2013

The 60 tonne long reach equipped with GPS dig system, rockwheel and underwater breaker attachments was mobilised to St. Helier in Jersey to assist with the installation of a new linkspan. A rocky outcrop of granite had to be removed and the ferry berth dredged with the port remaining in operation as usual


 
November 2013

Major earthworks at a railway cutting near Bristol used two long reach excavators with a reach up to 25 metres working both day and night shifts. Deep drainage was installed on the slope with several thousand tonnes of material removed safely


 
October 2013

Dredging of 15000m3 of silt and clearance of a large underwater obstruction in Teeside required the power and reach of the CAT 375. Equipped with a hydraulic ‘closing’ bucket to contain the contaminated dredgings, the machine also had to reach out to 34 metres and uncover a section of redundant sheet piles


 

September 2013

The Case 210 long reach machine was used on a high profile job at the i54 development off the M54 near Wolverhampton, to construct a gabion stone wall and place the backfill material. Low ground pressure tracks made this machine ideally suited for the project.
