May 2015

After several months of challenging weather conditions and the removal of rock from the sea bed, the extension of St Marys Harbour, in the Isles of Scilly has reached a key milestone. Using a 60 tonne long reach excavator fitted with specialist underwater attachments, the foundation framework has been installed ready for the precast concrete wall units.

April 2015

The redevelopment of the Port of Liverpool has made good progress with the dredging and reclamation of material from the docks, part of the expansion programme titled ‘Liverpool 2’. WM Plant Hire used their 85 tonne CAT long reach excavator fitted with GPS equipment to carry out a section of the works with Van Oord, following previous works on the project early 2014.


March 2015

The completion of the Lee Tunnel is a key part of the massive Thames Tideway Project, to improve the quality and efficiency of water treatment in the London area. With involvement since 2013, the company has deployed its 100 tonne long reach excavator to place rock armour at the new outfall into the River Thames at Beckton, working with specialist contractor CMP.


February 2015

Working with BAM on the slope stabilisation at Gatwick saw 2 no. CAT 330 long reach excavators fitted with hydraulic drill masts carry out soil nailing. The heavy duty machines were able to carry the larger masts which enabled the works to be completed ahead of schedule.


January 2015

The enabling works for a major development at Kirkstall near Leeds included the installation of large sheet piles on both sides of the river with limited access for standard reach machines. WM Plant Hire used their 60 tonne CAT 349E long reach excavator fitted with a MOVAS SP50 piling attachment, lifting up to 4 tonnes. Specialist contractor Ivor King, selected the machine for its performance and lift capacity.
