Background
Trains on a crucial line linking the East Sussex coast, Kent and London were first disrupted following landslides. Just as Network Rail had expected the line between Hasting and London to reopen, with repairs due for completion over the weekend, further bad weather caused major disruption with further landslips and movement observed on the embankment where the repairs were still taking place.
Scope of Works
WM Plant Hire was employed to work round the clock in the major earthworks in several locations on the rail line and also for sheet piling and embankment construction works.
Solution
WM supplied CASE CX180 12m and CASE CX210 17m long reach excavators and experienced operators to bring works back on track speedily so that the rail line could be successfully reopened. With access constraints WM Plant were able to offer machines which could be modified to suit both the access and the tasks required. EMV attachments were also fitted to the machines to enable sheet piles to be installed from a safe distance, given the continued ground movement.
