A major rail embankment scheme in Wiltshire on the main east to west line to London included heavy earthworks as part of a stabilisation package along a 800 metre section. Vertical drainage together with a re-profiling of the slope was carried out whilst keeping the line open, using specialist long reach equipment and a walking excavator. Maximum reach required was around 30 metres. WM Plant Hire used machines ranging from 8 to 65 tonnes.
