October 2019

WM Plant Hire have recently added a CAT 374 long reach machine to their extensive fleet with an impressive reach of up to 25m. For the last 6 months the CAT 374 long reach has been assisting one of Scotland’s largest privately owned civil engineering and building contractors RJ McLeod, on the construction of the milestone Newton Marina. As the anchor project, this forms part of Stornoway Port Authorities ambitious 20 year masterplan to improve the harbour by boosting marine tourism and creating space for larger vessels.

Assisting with the excavation of the hard sea bed material the 86 tonne long reach machine was fitted with Prolec GPS technology where sensors on the machine bucket and arm were linked to the computer in the cab to allow their position in real time to be overlaid on the 3D model.
