Leask Marine's precise dredging operations at the Grutness Ferry Terminal in Shetland, as part of the 2025 terminal upgrade, have been carried out with the aid of WM Plant Hire’s heavy duty CAT 21.5m long reach excavator. The machine equipped with an underwater breaker facilitated deepening operations and fitted with 3D GPS ensured accuracy throughout. Dredging operations involved removing seabed material to deepen the approach channel and berth, enabling larger Ro-Ro vessels to access the terminal. The work cleared sediment from critical harbour areas, meeting new operational requirements and facilitating safer turnarounds for the upgraded ferry service.
